stay at home father changing babyAny parent will tell you that there are hundreds of small moments in each day when they are grateful to be a mother or father. Obviously if you are a stay-at-home dad, these moments will occur more often – simply because you have more time to spend with your children. This isn’t the only benefit, however – in fact, becoming the main homemaker can have many diverse positives.

Although the happiness of your children always plays a large part in the decision to become a stay-at-home dad, your own happiness may also become a factor. If you are unhappy in your career or it is causing you to become stressed or unwell, you may decide to take a break from work to stay at home. Of course you will have to work whilst at home as well – doing the housework and caring for your children – but at least you’ll be your own boss, so to speak. It has been known to happen that men with high-stress jobs are advised by their doctors to become stay-at-home parents for the sake of their own health.

Another benefit of becoming a stay-at-home parent is that your relationship with your children should improve immeasurably simply through spending more time with them. If your children are perhaps struggling at school or socially, being able to spend additional time focussing on their education and their emotional development may be the push they need to catch up. Being a role model who plays an active part in the life of your child is incredibly important both for their development and your satisfaction as a parent.
